This is an exciting and busy week. Our church here in Quincy – LifePoint – is making the move to a new location. This Sunday is our first worship gathering at the theater in John Wood Community College.
God has poured out His grace in some breathtaking ways in our church’s nearly eight year history (8 years this August) – and that’s certainly worth celebrating. But at the same time, I can’t wait to see what God will do next! We’ve come to a new chapter in the LifePoint story. The setting is new, the season is different, but our heartbeat is the same: Every service, every class, every program… let’s shine the floodlight on Jesus!
So, yes, we celebrate all that God has done; we praise Him for His faithful provision over the past years. But we don’t idolize yesterday’s grace. Rather, we press on trusting God for the grace that He is providing today! My prayer for our church is that we don’t rest on our laurels: “Look how far we’ve come.” No, we can’t settle for that. There are still too many people who need to experience God’s grace deep down in their bones, too many people who need to know God’s love, too many people who need to know Jesus! There are still too many people in our community and around the world who don’t know this Good News!
As I walk into John Wood on Sunday, my prayer will be simply this: God, use our time at this place to make Jesus first in my heart and famous across this city (and world)!
